Da Viet
Da Viet is a fictional setting inspired by Vietnam, where the main story of the visual novel unfolds. The name "Da Viet" is a play on "Dai Viet," the historical name of Vietnam, translating to "Big Viet." However, Da Viet's borders and its neighboring countries are entirely fictional. It is described as a long, narrow country adjacent to the East Ocean.
Culture: Da Viet is heavily influenced by Confucianism, which is a recurring theme in the novel, particularly highlighting gender inequality and the emphasis on Confucian principles such as filial piety.
Politics: The rulers of Da Viet are referred to as Emperor or Empress, indicating its status as an independent nation. The novel depicts various conflicts between Da Viet and other countries, with the Da Viet-Shangpai war being a significant plot point.
Hue
Hue, inspired by the real Hue city in Vietnam, serves as the capital city of Da Viet from ancient times (during the reign of Empress Le Pham) to the modern story timeline (2045). In reality, Hue was the capital during the Nguyen Dynasty. The weather in Hue and Da Viet is described as tropical and humid, suitable for growing rice and plants, mirroring the actual climate of Vietnam.
Old Capital
The old capital of Da Viet, inspired by Hanoi (Thang Long), is mentioned a few times in the novel. Historically, Hanoi was Vietnam's capital before the Nguyen Dynasty. The novel references its cold weather, using it as an analogy throughout the story.
Shangpai
Shangpai, located southwest of Da Viet, is a fictional country characterized by its dry, desert-like climate, unsuitable for crops. Historically, Shangpai and Da Viet have experienced numerous wars over 3000 years due to political interests. Shangpai was eventually absorbed by Da Viet after a final battle led by Empress Vuong Le Pham. Shangpai's leaders are called King and Queen, suggesting it might have been a vassal state. Its culture, inspired by Vietnam's Tran and Le Dynasties, is less influenced by Confucianism, granting women more autonomy.
Saia
The Saia Kingdom, situated north of Da Viet, is a wealthy and large ally of Da Viet. Saia has supported Da Viet financially during various wars. Emperor Kinai, the ruler of Saia, is introduced in Chapter 8, expressing a desire to participate in a calligraphy challenge with Empress Le Pham, whom he meets in Chapter 11. The relationship between Saia and Da Viet is portrayed as a complex alliance.
Cabinh
Cabinh, a small country west of Da Viet, is mentioned briefly. It suffered from a drought and had land conflicts with Da Viet. After resolving these issues, Cabinh's King and royal family visited Da Viet to express their gratitude, showcasing both their appreciation and fear of Da Viet.
